GuuuuuUUUuuu-WAAAAAaaaaAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! ...Blargh...LOL
Anyways, enough silly shouting for now =3 I am finally home after Anthrocon and visiting and staying over at Gideon's and Astor's pad for about a week =3 and let me tell all y'all...I am super duperity tired....which is weird 'cause I'm usually a fluffball with boundless energy...meh, I'll catch my second wind quickly enough =3
So, I'm not going to go into full detail yet on my big trip to the U.S., 'cause one thing...it's like...5: 30 in the morning and i haven't slept yet...got home at around 12:30....around midnight, let's go with that =3
So yeah, brief summary...loads and loads of fun...met a bunch of old friends i made last year, and met a bunch of new friends this year too...yay for friends =3 I admit, got a bit tipsy and drunk on several occassion's, yay for being 21...kind of =3 um...what else...*shrugs* had lotsa fun and did more "con things" that people would do at cons...i guess =3
Anyways, I'm going to stay up a bit more before crashing for the rest of the day =3
Have fun and keep safe y'all =3

So I've been lurking for awhile now considering making my own suit. I've been making tails and making my own clothing for awhile now, so I'm fairly comfortable with making the body suit, but heads freak me out. My character is a raccoon, and I just have no clue how to translate my conceptual art into the foam carving. Does anyone have any good advice for this? I'll be using a balaclava and green foam, by the way, if that helps. |

Always learning, always. Hello everyone. I hope you're all doing well. I recently returned from a wicked fun festival at Four Quarters in PA and was introduced to some wonderful pagan people and pagan traditions and now have some learning that I'm interested in doing. :-) I was wondering if anyone had any interesting suggestions on where to find information on gems and stone work as well as on Voudoo and Santeria traditions. Thanks! :-) x-posted to nonwiccanpagans and nonwiccanwitch Current Mood: curious, alwaysCurrent Music: 13th Warrior on TV. |

Me again! Does anyone know what kind of sealants, both paint on and spray, are good for sealing the green foam? I have a couple large pieces, Morrow's ribs, and a lot of smaller pieces, his spine, that would make hot glue an annoying way to seal it. I would like to know so that I do not have to do a bajillion plati-dip coatings.
I'm also worried that some sealants may eat the foam. |

Three types of doomers and fantasy collapse by Kathy McMahon In the USA, Dave Cohen points out that “ we are dealing with multiple failures regarding America’s status in the global economy.” Doomers reject the notion that most Americans can absorb skyrocketing oil prices and remain unaffected, or that simple solutions will emerge. Industrialized countries are already greatly affected by rising oil prices and the rest of the world is suffering. In the French revolution, Marie Antoinette purred: “If they’re hungry, let them eat cake!” Here in the industrialized world, politicians offer: “Let them burn biofuels!” Eating, itself, has become subordinated to the industrial need to fuel the world economy. This is crazy.</p> Therefore, Doomers doubt the likelihood of an intentional change happening on a global level. Is it “impossible” to stop this collapse? Many thoughtful scientists whisper to each other what they can’t address publicly for fear of spreading panic, but what they see is terrifying: hundreds of species dying each day, a vanishing polar icecap, areas of the world, now unrecognizable, are deserts or flood plains. Vast plastic “islands” in our oceans have become “dead zones” or worse. Part of the frustration is the incredible senselessness of it all. Yet Doomers are the ones that are considered “crazy,” while magical thinking (“We’ll come up with something. I know…let’s trade ‘carbon credits!’ That way, the market will resolve it all!”) passes for a sane and constructive discourse. “Doomers” of all stripes can agree on the severity of the situation outlined above. But what are the differences between Doomers?

New suits from "The Furducers"! Hey all! Hope those who went had a great time at AC, because I know I did! Just wanted to share a few new suits with you guys. You may have seen one of them running around at AnthroCon and the other one dancing around on YouTube - if not - here they are! Two cute Husky Bois, that look nothing alike! Star was our first "glass eyes" head and we decided that Goldenwolf would look a lot better with a less realistic look. We have also start to carve our tails out of foam instead of sewing and stuffing them with polyfill which leads to better formed, more huggable tails! This probably also a good time to mention that we've (finally) got our website up and running! So check out www.FURDUCERS.com to check out more of our suits and prices! We're currently taking orders to be completed before MFM and MFF so get yer tail over our site if you want a good suit for a good price! Thanks for looking!! Upcoming Suits: Tim Lion Khortl Wolf Liam the Pit Bull Scorch the Wolf and two personal suits! -Sema p.s. - we also made a new fursuit head for steelthewarrior - if anyone has picture of him (he is a mouse who is always wearing a green robe with red trim) we'd really like to get our claws on them! We didn't get good ones while we had the head and he has no way of taking pictures, sooo, yeah, if anyone has pics that would be great! Current Mood: accomplished |

Just a little poll for all you Renfurs out there... Wondering if you prefer going to furry cons or Ren Faires. After all, they're really the same thing. You go to it, sometimes dressed up in elaborate, expensive costumes (which are sometimes risque), you walk around and look at very pretty things, sometimes buy them, you hang out with friends there, and you take in the entertainment around you! Poll #1218899
Open to: All, results viewable to: AllWhich, to you, is better? For me, I just love Faire. Until Kage and 2 work some swordfighting into their routine, there's just a tremendously lovely air to Faire, plus the food's there and you don't have to pay through the nose for any of it. That's always a boon. What do you think? Current Mood: curious |

Went to the Bristol Renaissance Faire for opening day with my friend and cohort samiitiger. Was a good way to get out and clear the head and what better way than with ale, merrymaking and buxom wenches! Main purchases included a new musketeer-style hat that goes well with my current costume with a magnificent plumage. Pictures soon! Also bought myself a new tankard (that's also color coordinated) that some booths are charging me double to fill with sassafras! D: After Samii left, I stayed behind to watch Ded Bob, Dirk & Guido and, oh, yes, the Mud Show. Next week, I plan on taking my rapier over to Excalibur and see if I can get a custom sheath made for it. Will be good! :D Current Mood: content |

Valdyr Fullsuit Photos I just realized that I never posted these here. This was something of a rush job, with some small adjustments to be made to the bodysuit at a later date... nothing too major, just tailoring the lower legs and such. These were the largest digigrades I have done to date, and I still love doing them... they propose an awesome challenge each time. ( Pictures and such! ) |

The Spectre of Collapse Is the collapse of a complex civilisation such as ours neccessarily something catastrophic?
Collapse here doesn't neccessarily entail catastrophe or anything egregious. More or less it means a peeling back of specific parts of the complex system that have their own and unique function, function rarely shared by any other parts. These are specialised parts, much like the organs in your body. This peeling back entails that some very specialised parts -- especially those that rely on other specialised parts in order to function -- collapse into other roles. Generally, these roles mirror the roles of other parts. To use the organism analogy again, certain organs (or their materials) are diverted to perform another function that might well be shared by other organs. Where this analogy fails is, of course, just where we know that organs in your body cannot be so modified. But parts of other complex systems, like our modern civilisation, can. The point here is not whether such a collapse is something practically feasible (not all parts can be recycled) or generally desirable, but is merely to illustrate that a collapse does not neccessarily entail a disruption of a functioning sysem. A collapsed system, while simpler and not as reliant on specialised parts, nonetheless may continue to function as something simpler. Whether or not the process or the result is tolerable depends on what is lost in the collapse.
It is not hard to imagine that certain specialised roles will change, nor is it hard to imagine that this will be on the whole not a very bad thing. For example, manufacturing -- currently a highly complex industrial sector involved in the building of a diverse array of products -- is likely to be consolidated around the production of a smaller group of products, energy and the infrastructure to support its consumption being foremost among them. Again, while complexity in the manufaturing sector is likely to suffer from higher oil prices, the ensuing shift to a simpler and more redundant paradigm isn't catastrophic by a long shot. Really, it only means that the diversity of products and labour roles has been peeled back. This shift may even be desirable, although I won't here pursue the reasons why it would be desirable. |

Masks vs Heads? OK. So I prostrate myself before you all in search of advice! I started up on my first head a little while ago (sorry no WIP photos--my roommate took off with the digital camera for the weekend before I could get pics); it's plastic mesh and foam and looks decent, although not at all like my concept art. After wrestling with it for awhile I decided to just roll with it and am turning that head into something that matches its current shape better instead of ripping it apart and starting over--I can use all the practice I can get. Either way. This still leaves me without a head for *my* suit, so I'm back to planning that. And drawing up *lots* more concept art. So here's the thing. My fursona has very specific, identifiable hair--modeled after my own, naturally. And I just can't see her without hair, or trying to find a wig that'd work half as well as just using my own. So I need to find a design that works for that. Anybody have any experience making use-your-own-hair heads? Any tips? I figure the best way to do it would be a mask rather than a full head, but I'm not sure what the best, sturdiest way to do that would be. I was thinking maybe a balaclava base with foam and after the foam's on and it's all stable I could cut out a portion at the top/back of the head? That way the mask would still fit snug around my head and neck? But having zero experience with balaclavas I have no idea if that'd work. The suit itself is a partial--furry shirt with paw-sleeves (meant to be worn with a tanktop over it), footpaws, and tail. Anyway. Any and all suggestions are quite welcome! |
